Half Day Morning Art Camp

Ages 4½ and up

Kids at Art’s summer morning camp gives young artists three hours (9am – 12pm) to immerse themselves in creative projects while exploring a wide variety of materials and techniques.

Campers work in small groups with plenty of individual attention from our instructors. Projects are adapted to each child’s age and experience, allowing both beginners and more experienced young artists to feel challenged and successful.

Throughout the summer, children may explore:

  • Drawing and painting
  • Clay and sculpture
  • Papier-mâché
  • Mask and puppet making
  • Mixed-media projects and more

We always keep things fresh. Children who attend multiple days or weeks will work on new projects each time, with no repeats. With multiple instructors on hand, kids get guidance, encouragement, and room to experiment.

Full Day Art + Sports Camp

Ages 4½ and up

Our Full Day Camp (9am – 3pm) combines the creativity of Kids at Art with an active afternoon at Kids in Sports, located just down the block.

Children begin the day with morning art at Kids at Art. At noon, they’re picked up for lunch and head to Kids in Sports, where they spend the afternoon enjoying a dynamic, multi-sport program that introduces them to popular team sports such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football, volleyball, hockey, and lacrosse.

The Kids in Sports facility is temperature-controlled and professionally cleaned, and the program emphasizes fitness, fundamentals, and teamwork through cooperative games, drills, and activities. Elements of music and yoga are also incorporated, creating a fun, balanced, and high-energy experience that keeps kids active and smiling all summer long.

Note: For Full Day Camp, children should be dropped off at Kids at Art and picked up at Kids in Sports. Children should bring a lunch.

Summer Art Classes for Ages 2 – 4

We’ve created a welcoming, engaging art class just for our youngest artists.

Our summer classes for ages 2-4 introduce young children to art through playful, hands-on exploration.

Children experiment with color, texture, paint, collage, and other age-appropriate materials while developing confidence and becoming comfortable expressing their own ideas.

Rather than focusing on making every child’s project look the same, our classes encourage exploration, imagination, and the joy of creating.

Summer classes for young children are typically offered in shorter 45-minute sessions designed especially for this age group.

A parent or caretaker must accompany children in this age group.

Take Art Outside the Studio

Each summer, Kids at Art offers young artists ages 6 – 14 the opportunity to draw and paint in Central Park.

Working outdoors gives children a completely different kind of artistic experience. Students learn to observe the world around them and use nature, architecture, people, light, and movement as inspiration for their artwork.

With guided instruction, individual support, and plenty of room for creative exploration, children develop observational drawing and painting skills while enjoying the experience of making art in one of New York City’s most inspiring settings.

Projects may involve drawing and painting from observation as well as interpreting what students see in their own creative way.

Art in Central Park is offered on select summer dates and sessions typically last two hours. We meet at the 72nd Street entrance to Central Park, and in case of inclement weather classes will be held in our studio at 1412 2nd Avenue. Registration details are announced with each summer schedule.

Why Families Choose Kids at Art

For more than 25 years, Kids at Art has provided a welcoming, creative, and enriching summer experience for children on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Here are just a few of the reasons families return year after year:

Summer Camp FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions about our summer session:

Kids at Art offers summer programs for children ages 2 and up, with different options designed for different age groups. Our Half-Day Morning Art Camp and Full-Day Art + Sports Camp are for ages 4½ and up and include mixed-age groups, with children grouped appropriately and projects adapted to their age and skill level. We also offer special summer art classes just for ages 2-4. Art in Central Park is offered for ages 6-14, with separate sessions for ages 6-10 and ages 11-14.

Our studio is located at 1412 Second Avenue, between 73rd and 74th Streets, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Most summer programs take place at our studio. Children enrolled in the Full-Day Art + Sports Camp spend the morning at Kids at Art, then move just down the block to Kids in Sports at 1420 Second Avenue for the afternoon. Full-day campers should be picked up there at the end of the day.

No. Our summer programs welcome both beginners and children with more art experience. Instructors provide individual guidance and adapt projects based on each child’s age, interests, and skill level, so children can work at a pace and level that feels appropriate for them.

Projects vary throughout the summer and may include drawing, painting, clay, sculpture, papier-mâché, mask-making, puppet-making, mixed media, and other creative projects. Children who attend for multiple days or weeks are always given new projects to work on, so there are no repeats.

Yes. Many of our summer camp options are designed to be flexible. Families can typically register for individual days, full weeks, or a combination of both, depending on the program. Exact scheduling options are announced when summer registration opens.

If the published summer schedule doesn’t fit your needs, you may be able to create a private class by bringing together a group of five or more children. Online art classes via Zoom are also available by request.

Yes. Our Full-Day Art + Sports Camp combines a morning of art at Kids at Art with an active afternoon sports program at Kids in Sports nearby. Children spend the morning creating in the studio, then transition to an afternoon of sports, games, movement, and other physical activities.
Yes. Kids at Art offers special summer art classes designed specifically for children ages 2-4. These classes use age-appropriate materials and projects to introduce young children to color, texture, painting, collage, and creative exploration in a playful and supportive setting.

Our summer camp groups are kept relatively small so instructors can provide plenty of individual attention. Our maximum group size is 16 children.

For most studio-based summer art programs, children do not need to bring any special supplies. Kids attending the Full-Day Art + Sports Camp should bring a lunch. For Art in Central Park, children should bring a water bottle and a small snack, and they are welcome to bring a favorite sketchpad if they have one.
Children who attend for multiple days or weeks are always given new projects to work on. We do not repeat the same projects, so returning campers can continue exploring different materials, techniques, and ideas throughout the summer.

Registration dates vary from year to year. We recommend joining the Kids at Art mailing list to be notified when the next summer schedule, dates, and registration information are announced.
