Yes, this list is a big one. We admittedly miss summer; when it starts getting cold, we’ll even settle for fall temperatures! But winter in New York City is truly a magical time. With beautiful hanging lights, and add a dash of snow, we don’t mind walking in a winter wonderland. Here’s our ten favorite things about winter in NYC.

1. Ice Skating

It’s no secret there’s delicious hot chocolate in NYC. Whether you like a rich cup topped with a marshmallow a la City Bakery, want to stick with a classic from Max Brenner, or don’t mind a little extra chill with Serendipity’s Frozen Hot Chocolate, there’s truly an option for every sweet tooth.
3. Holiday Window Displays

4. Holiday Markets
If you have a lot of people on your shopping list, this one is for you. From central Manhattan to Brooklyn and even Jersey City, the New York area boasts some of the best holiday markets in the world. Artisanal goods like homemade soaps and chocolates; home-knit scarves and mini pouches. You can find something for everyone! Check out a complete list of the best here.
5. Special Art Exhibits
The list wouldn’t be complete without an ode to some winter inspiration. From iconic Frankenstein memorabilia to a new Warhol exhibit at the Whitney Downtown, refer to the New Yorker for a complete list of what’s being shown at museums all over the city, all winter long.
6. Magical Performances

8. The Botanical Gardens Holiday Train Show

9. The World’s Largest Menorah
Did you know Manhattan and Brooklyn host competitors in the race for the World’s Largest Menorah? The dazzling (gigantic) Menorahs are list over a ceremony in December, complete with music, and of course, potato pancakes. Read more here!
